As a freelance content writer, applying the best Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices to the articles I write is paramount. Embedding keywords and integrating the most searched queries into the body of the text helps each article page to rank higher on search engines, and attract more traffic.
Here is a simplified step-by-step explanation of my process for using the best SEO practices and improving my articles – without paying for any premium services.
1. After receiving the brief from the editor/client, I write the majority of the text, making sure to use perfect grammar and spelling to maximize the content’s authoritativeness and trustworthiness. This improves search engine rankings.

2. Next, I use free SEO research tool ‘Answer The Public’ to see which questions internet users are asking related to my general topic, which in this case is ‘the price of gold’ and ‘gold investment’.

3. I re-word headings and subheadings in the article to better mirror the way that people are typing them into Google. I then restructure sentences so that the key search questions are embedded into the text. (most asked questions are highlighted in green).

4. Then, I search for keywords using free SEO research tools such as WordStream and Google Keyword Planner. I alter phrasing and inject keywords into the article where possible. (keywords highlighted in orange)

5. Finally, I read through the article and maximize readability and flow to keep the reader hooked, without touching any of the keywords or phrases.
And after that, it’s done! An article that will drastically improve the search engine rankings of the website it is published on.
